7-04

Welcome to Homeroom, Art & Français with Madame Mansfield!

Here you will find information about your child's Homeroom, Art and French classes.

I will update this page weekly and add information pertaining to projects, homework, what we are studying in class and/or any other important information.

November 2 - November 6

Immersion:  At the beginning of the week, students will add audio to the slide show they created in September (Mes top 5).  Then, we will review verbs in the present tense.  All work is available in Hapara workspace.  There will be a quiz next week.

Art:  This week in art,  we are looking at one & two-point perspective.  Then, students will have 3 work periods to create a cityscape using one-point or two-point perspective.  This will take us until the end of next week.

October 26 - October 30

Immersion:  This week, we will continue to work on our Halloween descriptive paragraph.  Once the planning sheet is submitted, Mme Mansfield will provide feedback for changes to be made.  For this writing task, we are focusing on the agreement of the adjective with the noun it describes as well as verbs in the present tense.  Students will write their paragraph once they get the go-ahead from Mme.

Art: This week, students have a choice of 2 pieces.  They can work on creating a card for Mayor Jim Watson's Christmas Card Contest.  Or, they can work on an aerial view of a pumpkin.  Happy Halloween!

October 19 - October 23

Immersion: This week, we are writing a description of a haunted house.  On Tuesday and Wednesday, students will work on the brainstorming and planning (graphic organizer) of their Halloween writing.  All instructions and resources are available in Hapara Workspace.  Students have 2 work periods to complete the graphic organizer and it is due Wednesday, October 21st.  IO will mark them Wednesday night.  Thursday & Friday, we will write our first drafts.

Art:  Students have work periods to finish their colour theory project.  This must be submitted through Hapara workspace.

October 13 - October 16

Immersion:   This week we are learning about adjectives in French.  Adjectives must agree in gender and number with the noun they are describing.  This means there can be 4 variations of each adjective: masculine singular, masculine plural, feminine singular, feminine plural.  Consider the adjective "bleu"

un soulier bleu

une robe bleue

des souliers bleus

des robes bleues

I have added online games students may chose to play in order to reinforce this concept.

Art:  This week in art, we are working on colour.  Colours can be warm or cold, we will look at how shade, tint, value and hue change the way we see colours.  We will learn about the psychology of colours.  Then, students will begin a colour project.  All links to lessons and project are in the Art workspace in Hapara.

October 5 - October 9

Immersion:  This week we will look at the writing tools that are available to students:  which online dictionaries are the best (LingueeWord Reference) we will look at Bon Patron which is an online grammar tool.  We will also explore the famous Bescherelle.  Please consult the Hapara Workspace: Immersion 7e année for more information.

Art: This week in art, we will continue to work on our shading project (instructions are in the Hapara Workspace: Grade 7 Visual Art).  The shading project is due October 7th and should be submitted electronically through Hapara.  Later this week, we will Look at colour theory and the psychology of colour.

September 28 - October 2

Français:  This week, we continue to work on our oral communication strategies.  This week, it is a-draw it out, make a sketch and b-how to look up words in the dictionary.  On Thursday and Friday, students will have the opportunity to present their Top-5 slideshows.  We will present them in small groups.

Art:  As we go deeper into the elements of art, we will explore the  following element: shading.

September 21 -25

Français:  This week, we will be learning about oral communication strategies.  Rather than relying on our common knowledge of the English language, students will be begin to use strategies that will allow them to improve their French fluency dramatically.  We will focus on the first 2 of these strategies:  Using gestures and explaining differently. (Lessons are available in the Hapara Workspace: Immersion - 7e année)

Art:  This week in Art we will finish our masked self-portraits.  Stay tuned for some super examples.

Then we will have an in-depth look at the elements of visual art (lessons available on Hapara Workspace).
