Here you will find information about your child's Social Studies and French classes.

I will update this page weekly and add information pertaining to projects, homework, what we are studying in class and/or any other important information.

November 2 - November 6

Immersion:  At the beginning of the week, students will add audio to the slide show they created in September (Mes top 5).  Then, we will review verbs in the present tense.  All work is available in Hapara workspace.  There will be a quiz next week.

Social Studies:  There is a test on Tuesday! (please see notes from last week)
                          Wednesday:  Cartes de Triage (a sorting activity)
                            Friday: Les Minutes Historica

October 26 - October 30

Welcome Back, Knights!!

Immersion:  This week, we will continue to work on our Halloween descriptive paragraph.  Once the planning sheet is submitted, Mme Mansfield will provide feedback for changes to be made.  For this writing task, we are focusing on the agreement of the adjective with the noun it describes as well as verbs in the present tense.  Students will write their paragraph once they get the go-ahead from Mme. 

Social Studies:  There will be a test next Tuesday.  The test will be on the 4 concepts of historical thinking as well as the evaluation of primary vs secondary sources.  All the notes and concepts are available in the Hapara Workspace.  This week we will complete a practice test and will take it up on FRiday, October 30th.

October 5 - October 9 

Immersion:  This week we will look at the writing tools that are available to students:  which online dictionaries are the best (LingueeWord Reference) we will look at Bon Patron which is an online grammar tool.  We will also explore the famous Bescherelle.  Please consult the Hapara Workspace: Immersion 7e année for more information. 

Social Studies:  This week we will continue to look at the Concepts of Historical Thinking.  Concept #3 Continuity and change over time and Concept #4 Causes and Consequences.  Time permitting, we will also learn about Primary and Secondary sources.  Please consult the Hapara Workspace: Histoire - 7e for more in-depth information.

September 28 - October 2

Immersion:  We will continue to work on our oral communication strategies.  This week's focus will be on drawing out or sketching an idea as well as using the dictionary or online dictionaries properly.  We will also begin a review of verbs in the present tense. 

Social Studies:  Moving on with the concepts of historical thinking, this week, we will look at historical perspective.  This coming Wednesday is Orange Shirt Day in honour of and in memoriam of the FNMI children who were sent to residential schools.    Within the context of historical perspective, we will read a story of one woman's residential school experience and hear stories of residential school survivors.

September 21 -25

Immersion:  This week, we will be learning about oral communication strategies.  Rather than relying on our common knowledge of the English language, students will be begin to use strategies that will allow them to improve their French fluency dramatically.  We will focus on the first 2 of these strategies:  Using gestures and explaining differently. (Lessons are available in the Hapara Workspace: Immersion - 7e année)

Social Studies:  This week we begin with 2 of the the 4 concepts of historical thinking.  1-Historical Significance, Historical Perspective.
